The network that's about you! -- Grow Your Team!

I am thinkng of setting up a membership fee for my new website is certain sections. But I am wondering what a good membership fee is. What would be the magic number that wouldn't be too much to ask or too little? Should it be a monthly fee or a yearly fee? Has anyone here set up a membership site? How did you come up with what to charge? I would love some help on this.

Yes... but the payback had better be highly visible, in time and cost.

On the flip flop what is the payback to doing it? Break even cost in time and money to set it up? Yes... but the payback had better be highly visible, in time and cost.

On the flip flop what is the payback to doing it? What is the time line on the payback? What is the breakeven cost in time and money to set it up?

Or am I being too cynical here?

I don't think cynical at all.

All good questions that are important to be able to answer in the process of deciding the cost benefit analysis.

mmmm I love that. ;-)

Here is the link for the show I listened to on this the other day. I think it might delete today, so listen to it today if you get a chance. It was great.

Leesa’s 7-step system and discover if Podcasting

She outlined 3 sites that are making money using podcasting

http://mommasterminds.com/

http://www.commoncraft.com/

Some were offer membership fees and others were making these products out of their podcast and reselling them.

This is her site

I don't know if membership is the way, but her ideas are great in using podcasting to make money.

Excellent, Cathie. I was a bit scared when it started the audio was a bit shocking at the start ( that woman hosting was just going on and on - good example of what not to do on a podcast! ) Leesa Barnes was very good. Thanks for sharing that.

Yes she is a little irritating with that accent too, but I am enjoying the guest she has on. Podcasting is a involving technology. Its not like on a TV show, but if you get the right people or ask the right questions, you could have a TV audience watching you.

After listening to this, can you get a better idea of why I am asking this question?

You know Cathie, since you got ripped off once by advertising your ideas, I am amazed that you put this on a public forum. In my mind it would have been better to just do it, or not do it. Whereas it is nice to get other people's opinions, as you are aware, sometimes you need to be careful who you share your information with. If this is a great idea, it will work. If it isn't, it won't.

I hope this works out well for you.

oh I think I had an idea why you were asking. And it is a great question to explore.

This is a question that we all need to find an answer to, and this is a great place to do it. Public forum aside, this is quality information to discuss, and that's a good thing. The more good information and examples we have to model the better so far as I can see. Every one of us could do this and each would have a different product. That's a blessing to everyone.

There really is "enough" (business) to go around, and we may well have different kinds of people that our particular style appeals to.
I was just surprised that Cathie would give out this information since she has been burnt before. Sometimes it is better to just do something and then share it with others. Social commentary is one thing - business is quite another. I would love to see Cathie succeed at this since she so obviously is putting in the time and effort to further her business.
Actually I really have not given much information out. The idea like LIndy is something everyone can do. But I gave out no specifics. I am just exploring it right now, and there are so many ideas I have not even started sharing what I really am going to do. That is why I haven't given the information out here. People wanted to know what I was doing and I shared that, but not the details. There is no way people can copy my idea from what they see here.
