Lamar, it is perhaps worth coming to understand their fears or resevations even if you don't perceive the same threats. Thinking as one with the goup you are working with is a good idea. If you hope to be a positive influence on the group, you need to be part of it.

I am sure that your restrictions are being driven by one or two people, at a guess, so it would be good if you could identify who is the leader in this reservation. At some level they are trying to protect ... something. It would be useful to know what that was, from their point of view. (They may not be aware of this though).
