Lamar I replied to your message to my inbox. Why are you responding here? Although this is where I thought you first posted but I can't see that post now. What's going on?

Lindy,

No one on this network can ask anyone else on this network to make a toll-free call to a television network requesting the television network to do a story?  Is that what you are telling me?  What's the real problem here?  Is it what I want to get done or the way I chose to express what I want to accomplish?

The USA is in a very serious economic situation right now. There are resources which want to help.  The problem is they are not getting as much exposure as they need.  So, I am asking people to encourage Fox News - because they happen to have a toll-free request line for this kind of thing - to call it and make the request.  Why is that spam? Do I have to compose the request as a question to see what people think about the idea?  However, I do not want opinionated feedback.  I want people to take action.

That's an interesting story Lamar. A bit more than I was looking for on the wall, but a big topic.

Lindy,

I am using Twitter in collaboration with other social media tools - in particular, Squidoo and Foursquare. Here in Broward County, FL there is a need to put a great many people back-to-work. While we do have special government agencies assigned to that task, what they tend to do is build up big infrastructures that convince the employers to pay them money, but rely on the job-seekers to do all the work. In essence, what they do is entrice the job-seekers to freely come into their infrastructure and then get the employers to pay them a free for providing them with these people. The FREE job seekers are the fuel that drives the employing agency's train. The agency gets grant money from the State of Florida and from employers that use their services. What do the job-seekers get? Unless they are able to get a job through the agency, the answer is nothing.

Well, I have decided to see if I can change that paradign by seeing to it that each job seeker that wants his own infrastructure can have one. I think the time has come for individuals - not just Big Brother Government - to come to the rescue. It's time netweaving, pay-it forward and the Golden Rule to be applied to getting more than just a job. It's time these ideas were applied to providing people with a path to a better future.

So, I have decided to start doing that very thing. Foursquare has shown their support by providing me with Foursquare Cling Stickers. One restaurant in California has already started to use the sticker I sent them. See my Squidoo lens - www.budurl.com/clings. Twitter now showcases the Foursquare cling promotion. Just do a search on Twitter for #4sqcling.

But, just being online with a promotion is not enough. This effort needs to be taken to the physical marketplace. How does that happen, cost-effectively? Several ways. One way is the creation of a customized T-shirt with a message that includes a link of value to the viewer. Unlike physical signs in Florida, T-shirts do not require a permit. You can wear a T-shirt with just about anything written on it anywhere you go. No so with a physical sign. Here in Coconut Creek, FL a physical sign requires a city business license, county tax receipt and a solicitation permit. In addition to the creation of a customized shirt, I am recommending an acrylic sign go into storefront restaurants featuring a sparkler display ad. A sparkler display ad can also go into a physical newspaper. These ads always include a landing page link, so there is also an Internet connection involved. This link collect market data so you know if anyone is bothering to pay attention. For more information on this idea, visit Marketing Sparks.

Bottom line, something needs to be done to put America back-to-work and restore the struggling economy. And, since Big Brother Government does not seem to be doing a very good job, it is time for individual people to take MORE INITIATIVE. There is only so much one person can do to help himself. However, if one person willingly agrees to go to bat for another, I believe a great deal more can be accomplished. After all, isn't that the incentive behind networking?

So Lamar, what's your favourite thing that you do with Twitter, and how does it help you in a day to day sense?

Lindy,

Twitter does have a new look and feel. However, the value to Twitter resides in its speed, efficiency and infrastructure. That is why you should use it. Whether you choose to use it via the website or TweetDeck is irrelevant.

Twitter proved its value back in 2008 when Tim Russert collapsed in that NBC studio. That one incident was brought to the world's attention via a single tweet from a cell phone that got retweeted many times. Hence, today I would not be the least surprised if every major media concern in the world had a Twitter account.

New Twitter has brought no features of value to me really.

I don't care for the new layout. I prefer to use Tweetdeck and only use Twitter on the web when I need to retweet something beyond 140 characters. There are still some bugs with the "new" twitter so I'll wait a bit and give them a chance to iron them out and then perhaps take another look.

I don't like that you can't reply to multiple people because the opted to have a pop-up box. That's a definite negative for me.
