I uploaded your app's link to my community's town hall network on Ning.com. So far, I have received zero comments. It may be that the app is more than a little overwhelming for most people. Right now, I would simply like to create some GOOD BUZZ for Governor Schwarzenegger's Second Small Business & Entrepreneurship Conference coming up in San Francisco on Nov. 19th. See www.sba.ca.gov for details.

Do you believe in memory-makers? Do you like to make "magic happen" where folks least expect it? I do. In fact, I enjoy seeing other folks do it. I recently saw a very clever video that did just that. You can see it too by going to http://budurl.com/familyfun. To me, that video demonstrates in a visual way what can be accomplished when people CARE, CONNECT and have a GOOD DESIGN.

My local community is planning a Spring Fling Festival in a local shopping center. I think it would be neat to be able to do something similar in that shopping center that was done on that video. So, I would like to assemble dancers, children, Twitter and Squidoo experts to come to this festival on May 16th. Now, I do not expect them to coordinate anything as extraordinary as was done on that video. I would just like to see if I could draw them here to discuss the possibility. It is actually in October for an Oktoberfest in the same shopping center that I would actually like to make the "magic" happen - maybe get my local community into the Guinness Book of Records in some positive fashion.

If you have any thoughts on this, please do not hesitate to share them on this thread.

Am,

I can identify with your frustration. I can identify with your car club experience as I used to be a member of a Saturn Car Club when I lived in Atlanta.

I don't know exactly why, but it appears in the area where I live people have to figure something is actually in their best interest BEFORE they buy into it. Coming from Atlanta, I would think a business mixer that offers FREE everything - admission, food, refreshments (even wine), and door prizes - would be well-attended. Not necessarily...not where I live. People here need MORE of an incentive. They have to convince themselves that that it is worth their time. If there are "magic words" which I can say to make folks do what to me is the logical choice, I confess I do not know what they are. But, if you visit www.squidoo.com/TMMF and click over to the Evite invitation, you will see that folks are figuring out for themselves that this event is important. You will also see that I sent out a great many Evite invitations that were never even opened. Conclusion? Evites via email does not get the job done. What does work? Evite invitations linked to Squidoo sites - wherein the referral comes from a third party. Yes, I do believe that third-party endorsements is what folks eager to spread a message should be using. It certainly is getting the job done for me.

Sorry about the rant, thanks for this forum, a place to network and vent some frustration. For a small florist like me, it's been tough, but I carry on and take all the available resources - networking, helping at church, and still enjoy the company of fellow florists and small business owners and learn from each other. We are a member of a car club and we trek with other car clubs to the Almond festival in Capay, CA every year to support the high school, and the economy in that community. That's collaboration, in our own small way.

Lindy,

If you think this thread would be better served as a Discussion thread, do it. I am not sure how to do it, myself.
